چکیده
In the Xingu river basin, Brazil, occurs two genera of Potamotrygonidae family: Potamotrygon and Paratrygon. this region, taxa have significant economic importance for ornamental fishing industry, being intensively captured, especially species leopoldi, which is endemic to basin. attempt propose a species-specific DNA marker from Xingu, as well ensuring robust reliable molecular identification, present work analysed mitochondrial gene portions Cytochrome Oxidase C – subunit I (COI) B (Cytb) five species: P. leopoldi; orbignyi; motoro; scobina Paratrygon aiereba. We found haplotype sharing, with total absence reciprocal monophyly in majority taxa. Individuals morphologically identified showed another, suggesting first record hybridization amongst freshwater stingrays Xingu. Also, we detected deep divergence among aiereba haplotypes, indicative speciation, possibility new river. Therefore, although still confusing controversial taxonomy stingrays, evidencing processes that may shaped evolutionary history Family, genes COI Cytb can successfully help their identification.

متن کاملAnalysis of stomach contents of freshwater stingrays (Elasmobranchii, Potamotrygonidae) from the middle Negro River, Amazonas, Brazil
Potamotrygonid stingrays are restricted to Neotropical rivers and information on their diet remains scarce. Thus, the prey composition of four freshwater stingray species from the middle Negro River was studied using stomach contents analysis: Potamotrygon motoro (n=40), Potamotrygon orbignyi (n=27), Potamotrygon sp. “cururu” (n=26), and Paratrygon aiereba (n=34). Prey items were identified up ...
متن کاملSystematics and morphology of Potamotrygon orbignyi (Castelnau, 1855) and allied forms (Chondrichthyes: Myliobatiformes: Potamotrygonidae).
The Neotropical freshwater stingray Potamotrygom orbignyi (Castelnau, 1855), and other similar "reticulated" species occurring in northern South American basins, were submitted to a thorough taxonomic analysis based on an extensive external and internal morphological study. The identity of P. orbignyi and the taxonomic status of the related nominal species Potamotrygon dumerilii (Castelnau, 185...
متن کاملInsectivory in Potamotrygon signata (Chondrichthyes: Potamotrygonidae), an endemic freshwater stingray from the Parnaíba River basin, northeastern Brazil.
Potamotrygon signata is an endemic freshwater stingray species in the Parnaíba River basin, Brazil. After its original description, only citations in systematic lists were recorded in the literature and the biology of the species remains unknown, including the feeding habits. The aim of this study is to characterize the overall diet of P. signata based on analysing stomach contents and to provi...

Five new species of Potamotrygonocotyle (Monocotylidae) are described and Paraheteronchocotyle amazonense Mayes, Brooks et Thorson, 1981 (Hexabothriidae) is redescribed from monogenoideans collected on the gills of species of Potamotrygonidae from the Negro River, Amazon, Brazil. Potamotrygonocotyle quadracotyle sp. n. and P. umbella sp. n. were found parasitizing an undescribed species of Pota...
